Their meaty texture and low water content make them ideal for sauces, pastes, and canning. They are hardy and thrive in warm conditions, requiring minimal care once established.

Direct Sowing: For direct sowing, plant Roma VF tomato seeds outdoors after the danger of frost has passed, once soil temperatures reach at least 70°F. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep and space them 24-36 inches apart in well-drained soil that receives full sunlight. Keep the soil moist, especially during the germination phase (7-14 days). As the plants grow, use stakes or cages for support to help prevent the vines from bending or breaking.

Early Sowing for Seedlings: Start Roma VF seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Use seedling trays with quality potting mix and maintain a temperature of 70-80°F for successful germination. Once seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves and after hardening them off, transplant them into the garden, spacing them 24-36 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting, and apply mulch to retain moisture and reduce weeds.

Harvesting: Roma VF tomatoes are ready for harvest when they reach a uniform red color and are firm to the touch, generally between 75-80 days after planting. Pick them regularly to encourage further production. Avoid letting the tomatoes overripen on the vine, as this may reduce their flavor and texture quality.
