Reliable, firm, and flavorful: Marglobe tomatoes are a classic variety known for their smooth, round shape and rich, tangy flavor. This slicing tomato is perfect for fresh use in salads, sandwiches, and salsas. Its an easy-to-grow, disease-resistant variety that is well-suited for both beginner and experienced gardeners.
Direct Sowing: Sow seeds directly into fertile, well-drained soil once the soil temperature has warmed to at least 60°F and there is no danger of frost. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep and space them 18–24 inches apart in rows spaced 36–48 inches apart. Keep the soil consistently moist for the best germination, which takes 7–14 days. Thin seedlings to allow for healthy plant growth.
Early Sowing for Seedlings: Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost date, using seedling trays and a well-draining potting mix. Keep the temperature between 70–80°F for optimal germination. Once the seedlings have grown strong and the outdoor conditions are stable, harden them off and transplant them 18–24 inches apart in a sunny, well-drained garden area.
Harvesting: Marglobe tomatoes are ready for harvesting when they have fully ripened to a deep red color. The fruits should feel firm with a slight give when pressed. Gently twist or cut the tomatoes from the vine to avoid damaging the plant. Harvesting regularly encourages the production of more fruit throughout the season.
