Spicy, productive, and versatile: Jalapeno M Hot is a classic hot pepper variety known for its medium heat and thick-walled, deep green fruits that turn red when fully ripe. It is easy to grow in warm conditions and produces heavily throughout the season. Jalapenos are ideal for salsas, pickling, stuffing, and adding a kick to various dishes.
Direct Sowing: Jalapeno peppers prefer warm soil and should be sown directly only in regions with long, hot growing seasons. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep, spacing them 12–18 inches apart in rows 24 inches apart. Keep the soil evenly moist, and ensure full sun exposure. Germination may take 10–14 days. Using black plastic mulch can help warm the soil for faster growth.
Early Sowing for Seedlings: For an early start, sow seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost. Use seed trays with well-draining potting mix and maintain a temperature of 75–85°F for optimal germination. Transplant outdoors once seedlings are 6–8 inches tall and nighttime temperatures stay above 55°F. Space plants 12–18 inches apart in nutrient-rich soil.
Harvesting: Jalapenos can be harvested when they reach 3 inches in length and have a firm, glossy green skin. For a milder flavor, pick them early; for spicier peppers, allow them to ripen to red. The appearance of light corking (small lines on the skin) is a sign of maturity. Regular picking encourages continued fruit production.
