Bean Bush – ‘Tendergreen’

  • Growing Temp 65°F – 85°F
  • Days to Maturity 50-60 days

Ease of Cultivation and crisp texture: ‘Tendergreen’ bush beans are a dependable, productive variety known for their tender, stringless pods and crisp texture. These beans are easy to grow, making them a good option for gardeners of all skill levels. They thrive in warm weather and are resistant to common bean diseases. The flavorful pods are excellent for fresh eating, canning, or freezing, and they maintain their quality through various preparations.

Direct Sowing: To direct sow ‘Tendergreen’ beans, plant seeds outdoors when soil temperatures have reached at least 65°F. Sow the seeds 1 inch deep and 3 inches apart in rows spaced 18–24 inches apart. The seeds typically germinate within 7–10 days. ‘Tendergreen’ beans prefer well-drained soil and consistent moisture to produce high-quality pods. Water regularly during dry periods and mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. The plants are usually ready for harvest in 50-60 days.

Early Sowing for Seedlings: If starting indoors, plant ‘Tendergreen’ beans 2–4 weeks before the last frost. Use seed trays filled with a quality potting mix and plant the seeds 1 inch deep. Keep the temperature between 70°F – 75°F to ensure good germination. Once the seedlings have developed their first true leaves and all risk of frost has passed, transplant them outdoors. Space the plants 3 inches apart in rows 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after transplanting to help the seedlings establish strong roots.

Harvesting: ‘Tendergreen’ bush beans are ready for harvest when the pods are about 5-6 inches long, smooth, and firm to the touch. For the best flavor, pick the beans when they are young and tender. Regular harvesting encourages more pods to form and prevents the beans from becoming tough and stringy. To ensure continuous production, harvest beans as soon as they reach the desired size.
